What is a Cubby Bed?

A Cubby Bed is an enclosed safety bed developed for people with cognitive, developmental or medical needs that may create significant nighttime safety risks. The appropriate model and features depend on the individual’s documented needs and care environment.

Who may benefit

Individuals with documented nighttime risks such as wandering, falls, entrapment concerns or unsafe interaction with the environment may be evaluated for a safety bed.

Clinical documentation

The medical record should explain diagnoses, functional limitations, specific safety risks, prior interventions and why less restrictive options have not met the need.

Coverage review

Coverage is never guaranteed. Approval depends on the insurance plan, medical necessity, benefit criteria, required documentation and authorization.

From inquiry to decision

The Cubby Bed process

Prime Care coordinates with the family, clinician and payer throughout the review.

  1. 1Contact Prime Care

  2. 2Clinical appointment

The treating clinician documents the need, safety risks and alternatives already attempted.

  3. 3Submit documents

We review the order and supporting records, then request anything still needed.

  4. 4Insurance review
